A 13-year-old girl is being charged with reckless murder after a gun went off and killed a 16-year-old girl, Memphis police said.
Police responded to the shooting at 2737 Curtis St around 8 p.m. Monday. According to MPD Major Karen Rudolph, the friends were in a home and passed a gun. The gun went off and hit the 16-year-old girl.
When officers arrived, they took the 16-year-old in critical condition to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital. She later died of her injuries.
The 13-year-old girl, whom The Commercial Appeal is not naming because she is currently being charged as a minor, has been charged with reckless manslaughter. No one else has been arrested or charged in connection with the shooting.
