MINNEAPOLIS (TSTIME) – An investigation is underway after a St. Louis County Sheriff’s Deputy shot and injured a man early Tuesday morning in Duluth.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) said the shooting occurred in the Morgan Park neighborhood after lawmakers tried to stop two men on an ATV near the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue and Idaho Street. The two men fled and the deputies began to pursue them.
Later, a K-9 officer found the two men in a nearby wooded area around 2:30 a.m. Shortly after, one of the deputies fired his gun, hitting one of the men and injuring him.
MPs assisted the injured man at the scene before he was taken to a local hospital for treatment. His injuries have been described as not life threatening.
After receiving treatment, the 29-year-old was taken into custody and incarcerated in St. Louis County Jail on probable grounds of flight and forcible obstruction. The other man on the ATV was questioned and released.
The BCA, which is investigating the shooting, said St. Louis County sheriff’s deputies were not wearing body cameras. Additionally, investigators say there is no footage captured by the team’s cameras.
The investigation is still in its early stages. The BCA says more information on the deputy who fired his gun will be released once the initial interviews are completed.
When the BCA has completed its full investigation, the findings will be forwarded to the St. Louis County Attorney’s Office for review and possible charges.
