The LEGO Group recently launched an all-new model based on McLaren’s F1 machine, designed in close collaboration between the legendary building brick company’s engineering experts and McLaren Racing itself.

The kit is the first-ever LEGO Technic incarnation of a Formula 1 car and this competition gives you the chance to get your hands on one – with the box signed by both team drivers Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo.

All you need to do is showcase your LEGO building collection – whatever form it takes – on social media and tag LEGO and us in your replies. The winner will be the one who presents his collection in the most creative way.

Perfection of the model

As McLaren honed its machine for reliability and performance on the circuit, LEGO engineers focused on precise detail to create a kit with 1,432 individual parts.

The model is 65cm long, almost a fifth of the actual size, and features a replica V6 engine with moving pistons, steering, suspension and differential, as well as a specially sculpted front spoiler.

James Key, Executive Director, Technical, McLaren Racing, said the model is an “engaging product that celebrates our 2021 season livery while providing fans with a practical interpretation of the new design of the 2022 F1 car”.

F1’s rising star

At the wheel of the real car, Lando Norris is known as one of F1’s hottest drivers – but few people know that off the track he’s a huge fan of building LEGO sets and owns a few McLarens himself.

“My dad had model cars, so I got into it at a very young age,” he told the LEGO site. “And I had a brother and two sisters, and so growing up we always used to play with them.”

Part of the joy of building is its relationship to mindfulness and although the level of focus isn’t quite up to F1 levels, Norris added: “If you make a mistake or put something thing in the wrong place, things just don’t end. very good.”
