Brazil’s Neymar out of World Cup group stage

Brazil’s coach Tite said Neymar had played through pain for much of the second half: “Neymar felt this pain during the game, but he decided to stay on the pitch to help his team. It’s remarkable that he could endure this pain while the team was playing.”

Tite added that he was initially unaware that Neymar had suffered an injury, only realizing it when the striker controlled the ball in a “strange” way. “I saw it now, in the video,” said the Brazil manager.

“It was when he dribbled that he caused the injury. With the capacity he has to overcome it, he cheated on me. I couldn’t see it.”

Asked if he would call up another player if Neymar is banned from the tournament, Tite said he was confident the Brazil star could play again in the coming weeks.

Neymar has come into this tournament after a sensational start to the season at Paris Saint-Germain, but struggled to make a big impression against Serbia before being replaced by Manchester United winger Antony.
