Cristiano Ronaldo writes the history of the FIFA World Cup and becomes the first player to score in 5 editions


FIFA World Cup 2022 Latest Updates: Top footballer Cristiano Ronaldo scored a historic penalty against Ghana in Qatar on Thursday in Portugal’s first group match. Ronaldo became the first player in FIFA World Cup history to score in five editions of the tournament. While first coming back in 2006, Ronaldo scored his 8th World Cup goal in 18 appearances for his country at World Cups.

Ronaldo put the ball past Ghanaian goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi and hit it with power. He had won the penalty himself after Mohammad Salisu knocked him down in the penalty area. This was Ronaldo’s 118th goal for Portugal. A penalty from Ronaldo gave Portugal a 1-0 lead.

The game between Portugal and Ghana resulted in a brilliant play as Ghana equalized quickly through captain Andre Ayew. Portugal bounced back with two goals from Joao Felix and Raphael Leao. The game was far from over though as Ghana put in a lionhearted performance to snatch one back and set up a grand stand.

An end-to-end game ended 3-2 after much drama and Ghana came painfully close to equalizing after a mistake by Portuguese goalkeeper Diogo Costa in the dying minutes. Portugal survived the fright to take three points and move to the top of the table in Group H at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The side led by Cristiano Ronaldo will now face Uruguay and South Korea in their next two group stage matches. Earlier in the day, South Korea and Uruguay drew 0-0 to share the points.
