The Indian cricket team also ended the three match series against New Zealand with a win in the 3rd ODI, securing a 3-0 sweep. While Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill were the top performers with the bat, scoring a century each, Shardul Thakur and Kuldeep Yadav were the top wicket takers, taking three wickets each. It was Shardul who was eventually named Player of the Match for his 3 for 45. Despite his superb spell, there were times in the game when Rohit was unimpressed by the pacesetter.
Shardul got the important wickets of Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham and Glenn Phillips in the middle overs, almost turning the game in India’s favour. However, there was a point in the match when skipper Rohit was not happy with Shardul’s request.
In fact, during the 27th, Rohit defected to Shardul and vented his frustration at the kind of length the bowler was bowling. Even the commentators agreed with Rohit at the time and suggested that Shardul should have bowled better.

Shardul has been in and out of the Indian team in the ODI format. After being named Player of the Match for the third ODI, the pacemaker’s confidence is said to have been boosted. After the match, Rohit also had a lot of praise for Shardul calling him a ‘wizard’.
“We bowled pretty well, stuck to our plans and kept our nerves. Shardul has been doing it for a while. Teammates call him a magician and he came and performed again. He just needs to get more games under his belt,” Rohit said during the presentation ceremony after the game.
