The upcoming OTT release features Aahana Kumra, Shweta Basu Prasad, Prateik Babbar, Sai Tamhankar and Prakash Belawadi as the protagonists.
In an exclusive conversation with TSTIME, Madhur Bhandarkar spoke about making India Lockdown and how the concept will touch people’s hearts.
I personally feel that as a filmmaker I have done different types of films, from Chandni Bar to my latest venture Babli Bouncer, which has done fantastically well on the OTT platform and has been a family entertainer, and now India Lockdown. Two contrasting projects for me, very different films from each other. India Lockdown, when this idea came to my mind, it stayed with me when it was written. In 2020 I wrote two scripts, one was Babli Bounder and one was India Lockdown. One was released and one received huge acclaim and success. Me and my writer wrote the whole movie in covid. So I felt it’s a subject that needs to be told to people. When we were stuck at home, we all thought what would happen. Because we’ve never seen these things globally, how a disease shuts down the whole world. I felt so much happening and that time I thought about documenting it. And there can’t be anything bigger than making a movie about it, that what happened during the first phase of covid and this movie is pretty much the first phase of covid, maybe the first month and what happened during that period.

The filmmaker also added that they ultimately decided to make the film around 4 stories in the end. He said he has to justify every character and it shouldn’t look like a documentary.
India Lockdown will have its world premiere on December 2nd on ZEE5, the video streaming service from Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd.
