NEET Council postponed as center to review income cap for SAP category


The Union government has informed the Supreme Court that it will review the ??8 lakh income limit set to determine the economically weaker section (EWS) booking category in the admission to the national admission test (NEET) for medical courses.

The Center will set up a committee with a period of four weeks to determine the criteria for determining the SAP category.

The NEET board is postponed for 4 weeks until the committee decides on the criteria for determining the SAP category, the Center told the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court told the Center that its EWS quota is a very empowering and progressive type of reserve and states should support the Center in its efforts.

The Supreme Court heard a batch of pleadings challenging the Center and Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) July 29 opinion providing for 10% for the EWS category in NEET admissions.

Earlier in its affidavit, the Center justified its decision to set the limit of ??8 lakh annual income set to determine the SAP category.
