2020 hasn’t been kind to restaurants across America, but some have stood up to the challenges and come out even stronger. One such example is the New York establishment Restaurant DANIEL, the Michelin-starred gourmet restaurant by chef Daniel Boulud.
With a redesign of the dining room scheduled for 2021, Chef Boulud has also promoted his chef, Eddy Leroux, to the rank of executive chef, and Shaun Velez, former executive pastry chef at Café Boulud, to the rank of executive pastry chef. .
“Over the 28 years of Restaurant DANIEL, it has always been an honor to work alongside the most talented, passionate and creative executive chefs in both cooking and baking,” said Chef Daniel Boulud. “The whole DANIEL team and I are delighted to start a new chapter after this very long year of challenges and decisive changes. We look forward to presenting a fresh and delicious experience in our artistic setting and warm atmosphere. Our best New York hospitality is back, and so is DANIEL.
In collaboration with Chef Boulud, Chef Leroux and the culinary team have created a new menu anchored in French tradition, with modern refinements and innovations. A fully vegetarian menu is available, as is a fixed price tasting menu of $ 275.
The 3,000 square foot dining room was reinvented by its original interior designer, Tihany Design. A new floor plan provides a contemporary vibe to the main dining area, with handcrafted wavy wood screens and custom-designed rugs, furniture, and lighting to create a stylish guest experience.
Paris-based interior design studio Lalique also worked closely with Chef Boulud to create a bespoke bar experience with crystal glass and space in creative combinations.
As part of the interior renovation, Chef Boulud has created a series of dedicated biannual exhibitions that will be installed in the historic neoclassical dining room, the intimate Upper Lounge and the private Bellecour room. Organized with artistic advisor Janis Gardner Cecil, the initiative begins with an exhibition of large-scale landscape paintings by contemporary American artist Alex Katz. A selection of works by Robert Mapplethorpe is on display in the Upper Lounge. Restaurant DANIEL’s fine arts program is a celebration of New York City as the epicenter of art and culture around the world.
