Neymar has come into this tournament after a sensational start to the season at Paris Saint-Germain, but struggled to make a big impression against Serbia before being replaced after 80 minutes by Manchester United winger Antony.
Neymar has a painful history of World Cup injuries and missed the 2014 semi-finals due to a back problem. He was also not fully fit for the 2018 World Cup after undergoing foot surgery earlier this year.
Brazil captain Thiago Silva said before the match with Serbia: “I think Neymar is starting this competition in great shape. His preparation was different this time.
“In 2014 he got injured when he played so well, and in 2018 he came into the tournament in a different way because he had a serious injury and so hadn’t played much. Now with a different preparation, without injuries and without worries, see we have a better Neymar.”
Brazil’s next match is against Switzerland on Monday before taking on Cameroon in the final group stage match on Friday, December 2.
Brazil beat Serbia thanks to two goals from Tottenham Hotspur striker Richarlison, the second of which was a stunning bicycle kick. Richarlison’s strikes came in a devastating 11 minutes, destroying Serbia’s hopes of upsetting one of the pre-tournament favourites.
