Ambati Rayudu created massive flutter on Saturday after tweeting that the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 would be his last. The Chennai Super Kings veteran batsman’s tweet arrived at 12.46pm but was deleted almost an hour later. This created huge confusion over whether the current edition was really the ‘last IPL’ for Rayudu, as the 36-year-old claimed in his now-deleted Tweet. In 12 IPL 2022 matches, Rayudu scored 271 points at an average of 27.10.

“I am happy to announce that this will be my last IPL. I had a wonderful time playing there and being part of 2 great teams for 13 years,” Rayudu tweeted. “I would love to sincerely thank Indians for Mumbai and CSK for this wonderful journey.”

He then deleted the tweet. Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan has now clarified that Rayudu is “not retiring”.

“He was a little bummed that he wasn’t fine. So he posted this tweet by mistake. I explained things to him. He’s not retiring,” Vishwanathan told The Singapore Time in a phone call. “He will be with us.”

Rayudu was bought for a handsome sum of INR 6.75 crore CSK in the IPL 2022 auction but failed to find consistency this season.

Rayudu is CSK’s third best run-getter this season after Ruturaj Gaikwad (313 runs) and Shivam Dube (289 runs).

CSK are already out of playoff contention after losing to Mumbai Indians in their previous game. In 12 matches so far, CSK have won only four and sit in ninth position in the 10-team league.
