Babar Azam scored a hundred against England on Thursday in the second T20I of the seven-game series at the National Stadium, Karachi. Pakistan chased a 200-run goal into the game and made it home comfortably as Babar led the innings with his 110 not out of 66 balls. His knock was laced with 11 fours and 5 sixes. After the game, former Pakistani pacemaker Shoaib praised Akhtar Babar and said he followed the art of Indian batter Virat Kohli to score a hundred in a chase.
With the last three-digit number, Babar also became the first Pakistani batter to score two hundred in the T20I format. His first century in the format had come against South Africa. It was a 122 point knock that had come from 59 balls in Centurion last April.
Akhtar claimed that Babar is the best hitter in the world.
Hats off to the chase. Virat Kohli used to score hundreds in chases… over 150 to 160, he becomes something else. And when he becomes something else, this is what happens, Pakistan wins the game,” Akhtar said on his YouTube channel.
Speaking of Thursday’s match, England posted 199 for 5 in 20 overs with the help of Moeen Ali’s 55 not from 23 balls and Ben Duckett’s 43 from 22 balls. In response, Pakistan reached home with 10 wickets in hand and 3 balls left.
Meanwhile, the win broke Pakistan’s streak of three losses that stretched from the Asian Cup. Pakistan was defeated by Sri Lanka in back-to-back matches at the continental event.
Pakistan and England will play the third T20I of the series on Friday.
