SL vs AFG Asia Cup: CSK star Matheesha Pathirana makes T20I debut, watch IPL team special post


Matheesha Pathirana was brought in by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as Adam Milne’s replacement for IPL 2022 after the latter was banned from the tournament, and the pacer dubbed ‘junior Malinga’ due to his likelihood of the legendary pacer finally made his T20I debut for Sri Lanka in their Asia Cup 2022 tournament opener against Afghanistan on Saturday.

The 19-year-old has been heralded as the next big thing in Sri Lankan cricket. He has a swinging action similar to Malinga’s, and CSK also wished their youngster the best for his first T20I competition at international level.

On Twitter, the four-time IPL champions shared a photo of Pathirana receiving his debut T20I cap for his teammates, and they had the sweetest caption for him.

“Slingshotting in the ring of the Asian Cup! Super debut, Matheesha!” wrote CSK on the microblogging platform.

Matheesha Pathirana came into the limelight when he threw an incredible 175km/h delivery to Yashasvi Jaiswal in India at the 2020 ICC U-19 World Cup in South Africa. Although he became a huge talking point at the time, it was later revealed that the figure had been misquoted due to a glitch in the rating system.
