The Supreme Court ruled on Wednesday that the difference in vote value between densely populated and sparsely populated districts in the 2021 House of Representatives elections – 2.08 times – was constitutional.
The top court’s decision followed 16 conflicting lower court rulings in which plaintiffs demanded that the result of the October 31, 2021 House of Representatives election be annulled.
Of the top court’s 15 Grand Bench judges, 14 ruled that the 2021 House of Commons elections were constitutional, while one said they were unconstitutional.
