Twitter responds to the TSTIME set by the French communications regulator


Twitter met a TSTIME on Thursday to respond to France’s communications regulator about whether the company can meet its legal obligations, a spokesman for the regulator said.

Arcom sent a letter to Twitter on Monday asking whether it can meet its legal obligation to guarantee transparent information despite the significant job losses at the company.

“Twitter has responded to our letter,” said Arcom’s spokesperson. “We will analyze their response. The dialogue continues.”

It was reported a few days ago that Twitter’s head of French operations, Damien Viel, said he would retire from the social media platform, whose new owner Elon Musk recently fired top executives and forced significant job cuts at the company.

“It’s over,” Viel tweeted on Sunday, thanking his team in France, which he led for the past seven years.

Viel confirmed he was leaving Twitter in a separate message to Reuters.

He did not elaborate on the circumstances of his departure and declined to say how many people Twitter employed in France before or after Musk’s takeover of the company last month.

Labor laws in France prevent companies from laying off permanent workers overnight. Companies based in France must formally notify the staff they intend to lay off of their plans in advance, usually by letter of acknowledgment of receipt.

They must also respect certain notice periods, depending on the nature of the dismissal and the seniority of the staff.

For layoffs involving multiple employees within 30 days, companies must also follow certain procedures, including notifying staff, employee representatives, and the Department of Labor.

This means that the whole process takes at least a few weeks to a few months.

A Twitter spokesperson in France has not responded to posts seeking comment since Musk’s acquisition in October.
