Umran Malik sacks Devon Conway, takes his Maiden ODI Wicket. Look | Cricket news

Umran Malik made his highly anticipated ODI debut on Friday when he was named in the playing XI for the first ODI of the three-match series against New Zealand. The fast bowler made an immediate impact when he beat Devon Conway, and soon after also dismissed Daryl Mitchell. Umran got his first scalp of the match on the first ball of the 16th left when he had Conway caught at the hands of wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant.

It was a full, fast and wide throw thrown outside the stump and Conway chased him for a drive, only managing to make a faint outside edge. It turned out to be an easy catch for Rishabh Pant.

Soon after, Umran beat Daryl Mitchell and he made an instant impact on his ODI debut.

Left-handed batsman Shikhar Dhawan is currently leading Team India in the ongoing three match ODI series against New Zealand. The seasoned pro showed what he’s got against the hosts, as he struck a 72 in the first ODI to form a 124-run lead for the opening wicket alongside Shubman Gill. Ahead of the first ODI, former Team India head coach Ravi Shastri praised Dhawan, saying the southpaw is not getting the accolades he truly deserves.

Speaking at Prime Video’s Pre-Match Coverage for the 1st ODI, Shastri said, “He is immensely experienced. He is not getting the accolades he deserves. To be honest, most of the spotlight is on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. But if you look at his one-day cricket record, and you look at some of the innings he’s played against top teams in big games, that’s an excellent record.”
