Veteran Coaches SRD Prasad, Sanathoiba Sharma, Gurcharan Singh To Be Honored With Padma Shri | Other sports news

On the eve of the 74th Republic Day, the Government of India announced that SRD Prasad, Sanathoiba Sharma and Gurcharan Singh will receive the Padma Shri awards. People like Kalaripayattu master SRD Prasad, Thang Ta guru K Sanathoiba Sharma, former cricketer and veteran cricket coach Gurcharan Singh will be honored with the Padma Shri for outstanding services in their respective sports fields. India’s president on Wednesday approved the award of 106 Padma Awards, including three for athletes.

The Awards are presented in various disciplines and fields of activity such as art, social work, public affairs, science and technology, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service.

‘Padma Vibhushan’ is awarded for exceptional and outstanding service; ‘Padma Bhushan’ for excellent service of a high order and ‘Padma Shri’ for excellent service in a specific field.

The awards are announced each year on the occasion of Republic Day. The awards are presented by the President of India on ceremonial occasions usually held at Rashtrapati Bhawan around March and April every year.
